There seems to be a growing trend towards crowd-funded projects, although not so much for the publishing side of the project but definitely towards the art/illustration side of a book project; least, that is how it appears after a cursory look at the Kickstarter website. Both Chambers and I are committed self-publishing authors and all of our titles are self-published, both Kindle and paperback; true to say that we are also amazon-philes and all of our titles are enrolled in Select. We are not interested in putting money into the hands of publishers who only do what we already do successfully by ourselves.
Whilst we will always self publish, there is one thing which we would really love to do and that is to get something professionally illustrated. Both The Zac Tremble Investigates series and The Inspector Fenchurch Mysteries series lend themselves to illustrations and our vision is to see the series illustrated much in the same way as the Les Petits Polar du Monde series produced by Le Monde each summer is illustrated. Here's a link to an amazon page which will display the Le Monde series so that you can see what we are talking about:

Both Chambers and I are artists but not in the league of the artists who participated in this and the other Le Monde series (it's a summer thing they do every year); and neither of us really has the time seeing as we are writing practically 24x7 (no, seriously). Therefore, we need both artists willing to work with us and some investment to be made, to make this happen and get to see the realisation of at least the Zac first series illustrated.
It isn't just a question of money; we want to collaborate (it's our fundamental philosophy) and engage with the amazingly loyal readers of the Zac series. A Kickstarter project might just get this off of the ground; there are no specific details yet but does the idea appeal at all?
Check back here for updates as we do more research and out thinking gets refined.
Our initial goal is to get the first series of Zac Tremble illustrated (which will include a new cover on each of the 12 case files). If the idea appeals please drop us a line so that we can start to gauge support and begin to work out with you what the pledge rewards would be.
THANKS!
