Editing Services
Editing is both an art and a science and we are well-acquainted with the need for professionally edited manuscripts that enhance the story and the reputation of the author.
Not all edits are the same and we fully understand that different services are needed at different times throughout the story development lifecycle. Which is why we offer a range of services from a basic critique of a story outline to a full rewrite. While our prices are competitive, they also reflect the amount of time that we invest in the process. You can expect to pay approximately 1 cent per word for a classic edit - there is a minimum charge of $95 (incl. tax).
For simplicity, we offer three editing services which we call 1) Development, 2) Classic, and 3) Tailored. See below for a breakdown of those services and the sorts of things you can expect, never forgetting that we can always tailor a package to meet your specific requirements. Please note, we only accept manuscripts written in English.
Time is always of the essence. How long something will take is highly variable and heavily dependent on exactly what you are looking for. We will always strive to deliver our service as efficiently as possible. However, as a rule of thumb, and dependent on other work, a development edit of a 250 page story would probably take between 7 to 14 days; a classic edit of the same story would probably take between 15 to 30 days. A tailored service could be anything from an hour to three months. Regardless, we will always keep you informed of our progress and if we have any issues. All of our services involve a maximum of three review/re-work cycles.
Golden Rules
Some services will require a non-returnable deposit.

- We can never 100% guarantee that a manuscript will be error-free. We will do our utmost to ensure that it is but we cannot guarantee it.
- If your requirements change during the course of our work, time and cost will also change.

Development Editing Service
Think of this as idea-led rather than process-led. You need a critique of a story - or some element of it. The answer to the question 'does this work?' Help in identifying where the story could go or be strengthened. This service works regardless of what stage your manuscript has reached. This service can also include, by arrangement, author mentoring.
Classic Editing Service
A combination of the traditional elements of both copy and line editing. Checks for errors (punctuation and grammar), checks for consistency (with a pre-specified style guide), checks for consistency of and comments on language, style, and flow (strength of story and readability). Character development. Point of view (POV) assessment. Timeline analysis. Internal referencing.
Tailored Editing Service
Which is exactly what it sounds like. Whatever you want; whether it be a simple proofread, a continuity check, or a full report on every aspect of the story and recommendations for improvements. This service can include a partial or full redraft. All editing work on poetry falls into this service.
